In an unsurprising move at Amstelveen, the England men’s ODI team recorded their highest ODI total of a monstrous 498 runs, bettering their own total of 481 they scored against Australia in 2018. Considering how they have played since the 2015 world cup exit, and already have 3 400 plus scores, including yesterday’s one to their name, this record was coming only from them.
498 was gargantuan considering Jason Roy missed out, else the score would have been 558. The likes of Jos Butler, Dawid Malan, Philip Salt and especially Liam Livingstone, who rubbed salt into Netherlands’ wounds came up with this massive total as once again England made a mockery of their own record.
England, since their world cup win in 2019 have not played ODI cricket for a long period of time, but the IPL influence has given them the license to halt and take off as required. The likes of Roy, Butler, Bairstow, Morgan and now Livingstone have benefitted hugely from the league and come next years’ 50 over world cup in India, they have enough Arsenal to defend their crown in style.
The total then, was defended easily, and they would back themselves to get another series win to their name as important home assignments against India and South Africa beckon, but for now, it’s England’s world domination in ODI cricket and we are just living in it.
