After the disappointment of the Pakistan series, in which they were hammered 6-0 across the ODI and T20 formats, the Windies would like to overcome their disappointment as they host Bangladesh for a full series beginning June 16.
Jason Holder has been given rest by the board as he needs to be kept fit for the T20 world cup in October and the squad doesn’t include Shamarh Brooks and Veerasammy Permaul who won against England earlier this year. Roston Chase and Jomel Warrican who had both been dropped ahead of the England series are part of the President’s XI that will take on Bangladesh in the practice game ahead of the series.
As far as the rankings are concerned, West Indies are currently placed sixth in the World test championship table, whereas Bangladesh are placed 9th. Both teams would like to move up the table and the series promises to be a competitive one.
The visitors, on the other hand, are going into the Caribbean with a good bowling line up. Apart from Mustafizur Rahman and Taijul Islam, Ebadot Hossain and Shakib A Hasan, a couple of fresh faces have been introduced into the side and would like to make a mark against a quality Windies bowling line up.
An intriguing battle awaits as two iffy sides, with a bad previous series behind them take on each other battle royale with the likes of Shakib, Kemar Roach and Tamim holding the aces for both sides.
The test series will also be followed by 3 T20’s and 3 ODI’s as the visitors look to challenge the hosts across all formats. Both teams took on each other in the T20 world cup last year and West Indies pipped Bangladesh in a thriller.
With the T20 world cup set to be held this year and the ODI world cup to be held next year, a good contest awaits as two battered teams look to play one up man ship.
Head-to-Head
The West Indies and Bangladesh have faced each other 18 times in tests, with the hosts winning 12 times and the visitors winning just 4 times. The other two occasions have resulted in a draw. In the ODI format, the two teams have faced each other in 41 matches. Out of these 41 games , West Indies have won 21 whereas Bangladesh have come out victorious on 18 occasions . 2 matches ended without a result. In T20’s too, the story is just as dismal for the visitors as they have won 5 and lost 7 T20’s with one ending as no result.
