After literally blowing away a lame Uttarakhand side by a margin that only one can dream of (725 runs), Mumbai will be keen to set one foot in the final of a competition, they have won a jaw dropping 41 times. They are up against a side who have knocked off Karnataka in thrilling fashion and are looking to do that against Mumbai.
Mumbai, riding on special innings from Suvedh Parkar and Sarfaraz Khan scored a gargantuan 647 runs with Shams Mulani chipping in with a nice cameo. Mulani didn’t stop there as he picked up a 5 wicket haul as well as Uttarakhand were blown away for 114.
In the second innings, Prithvi Shaw, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Aditya Tare stretched the lead to an unimaginable 793 runs before knocking Uttarakhand off for a mere 69 runs. UP have their task cut out against a rampaging Mumbai outfit who are well on course now.
UP meanwhile ousted Karnataka in riveting fashion. After conceding a 98 run lead to them, Yash Dayal and co. bowled Karnataka out for 114 in the second essay and chased down 213 in style to qualify for the semis.
Mumbai have everything going for them ahead of the second semi final. The openers are in good form, Khan and Parkar have mammoth scores behind them and the likes of Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian and Tushar Deshpande too will hunt in packs to make sure that the stalwarts make yet another Ranji Trophy final.
For UP, a batting cohesion is the need of the hour. They covered their slip up against a side like Karnataka, but they know they are up against a side that knows how to wipe off any given opposition on any given day. Priyam Garg, Rinku Singh, Yash Dayal and Shivam Mavi hold the key for them and they will know the importance of beating a side like Mumbai as it will boost their confidence should they qualify
Yashasvi Jaiswal – After a terrific 100 in the second innings in the quarter final, Jaiswal would once again want to produce an innings worth noticing in the semi final for that elusive India spot.
Shams Mulani – Produced an all round performance in the quarter final, an encore beckons from this classy all rounder.
Priyam Garg – Did not get his chance in the IPL, would want to make up for it by scoring big.
According to our prediction, Mumbai is the likely winner at this stage as they are the confidence is sky high and the opposition is vulnerable
Prithvi Shaw – A dynamic opener, expect Shaw to hit the maximum number of boundaries as Mumbai look to make the most courtesy his blaze off
Aditya Tare – We predict the maximum number of runs to be hit by the Mumbai captain as a big one isn’t too far away for him.
Tushar Deshpande – A bowler who hits the right length more often than not, he will be the key to skittle out the UP batsmen and produce a match winning spell
